Proformance's Supercharged Godzilla Crate

Proformance Unlimited Inc. has built a supercharged Ford Godzilla 7.3-liter V8 crate engine that produces over 850 horsepower at the crankshaft. Each engine is individually assembled and dyno-tested after the build is complete to ensure it meets or exceeds the claimed 850 hp at the crank before leaving the Melbourne, Florida, workshop.

Founded in 2002 by Doug Mascaritola, Proformance Unlimited specializes in hand-built, turn-key V8 crate engines. Mascaritola, who started working in his family's machine shop at age 13, remains the owner, president, and lead engine builder. The company started in Ocean, New Jersey, moved to Freehold, and relocated to Melbourne in 2015. Steven Lejda serves as Vice President, and the company builds over 200 engines a year. It builds engines across most of the American performance canon, including Ford 7.3 liter Godzilla builds, and has a sideline building purpose-configured airboat engines. The range runs from mild street engines to supercharged Godzilla combinations capable of over 1,000 bhp.

The Ford Godzilla 7.3 Liter V8

Ford introduced the 7.3 liter gasoline V8, known as the Godzilla, in the 2020 model year F-Series Super Duty truck. It replaced the aging 6.8 liter Triton V10 and gave Ford its largest-displacement gasoline V8 since the 460. The design is traditional, with a cast iron block, cam-in-block pushrod valvetrain with two valves per cylinder, and a forged steel crankshaft, paired with aluminum heads, variable cam timing, port fuel injection, and a 10.5:1 compression ratio.

In F-250 and F-350 pickups it launched with 430 bhp at 5,500 rpm and 475 lb ft of torque at 4,000 rpm, with torque raised to 485 lb ft from 2023 onwards. Detuned variants cover the rest of the range, with 350 bhp and 468 lb ft in chassis cabs and medium-duty trucks, and a 300 bhp “economy calibration” in E-Series vans.

Ford Performance also sells the Godzilla V8 as a crate engine, alongside the hotter Megazilla, which makes 612 bhp and 670 lb ft naturally aspirated on pump gas. The supercharged, competition-only Megazilla 2.0 arrived in 2025 with over 1,000 bhp.

The custom-built Ford 7.3 liter Godzilla V8 built by Proformance Unlimited is assembled as a complete, supercharged performance package and advertised at more than 850 bhp.

The cast-iron six-bolt-main block is fully machined and keeps a Ford forged crankshaft, paired with H-beam connecting rods, custom forged pistons, performance bearings, file-fit rings, and an internally balanced rotating assembly.

Up top, the factory Godzilla cylinder heads have been CNC ported and fitted with stainless-steel valves, performance beehive springs, upgraded retainers and locks, chromoly pushrods, and a custom-ground hydraulic roller camshaft. ARP (or equivalent) studs are used for the mains and cylinder heads. Forced induction comes from a 3.0 liter Whipple supercharger, with upgraded fuel rails, injectors, a drive-by-wire throttle body, and an ATI harmonic balancer. The engine is managed by a Holley Terminator X-Max ECU and comes with a complete wiring harness, sensors, and accessory drive system.

Availability and Testing

Each complete engine assembly is dyno-tested prior to shipment. Proformance states this makes it a ready-to-install package rather than a core engine requiring additional parts. The engines are sold as made-to-order items through the company's official eBay store, allowing for specification changes before the build begins.
