The Jaguar Type 01 is an all-electric four-door GT sedan that represents a technical leap for the British marque. At 5,235mm long, the vehicle uses Jaguar's bespoke JEA architecture, developed from more than 360 patent applications, to deliver record-setting performance and efficiency.

Its tri-motor electric powertrain combines a 260kW front motor with twin 310kW rear motors. This setup produces 1,030PS and 1,365Nm of torque, enabling a 0-62mph sprint in 3.2 seconds. A 118kWh battery within an 850-volt architecture promises up to 400 miles of EPA range. The car supports 350kW DC fast-charging, capable of adding 200 miles of range in as little as 13 minutes. With a drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd, it is the most aerodynamic Jaguar ever built.

Design and engineering innovation

The Type 01 stands 1,403mm tall and rides on 23-inch wheels. Its design features an 'Impossible Panel', a rear quarter pressed in Halewood over six stages to achieve five planes where convention allows only three. Frameless doors with hidden seals, active front vanes, and a deployable spoiler contribute to its sleek form. All-wheel steering gives the grand tourer an 11.5m turning circle, while air suspension and a 50:50 weight distribution aim for dynamic precision.

Inside, a 24-inch single-glass OLED screen dominates the cabin, accompanied by a separate seven-inch display. A 38-speaker Meridian sound system includes a world-first Panoramic Soundbar running across the dashboard, creating what Jaguar calls an automotive-first sensory audio experience. The vehicle is designed, engineered, and assembled entirely in the United Kingdom.

Heritage and controversy in Jaguar’s evolution

This new model, foreshadowed by the highly scrutinized Type 00 concept, is accompanied by a significant PR campaign. Its reception echoes a pivotal moment in Jaguar's past. The XJ-S arrived in 1975 as a comfort-oriented Gran Turismo, ushering in a radically new design era. It was initially met with harsh criticism from Jaguar’s traditional customer base. Today, the Type 01 faces an even bigger storm of controversy as it redefines the brand's identity for the electric age.

The Chromatic Moments collection and availability

A strictly limited 'Chromatic Moments' collection will launch first. It is limited to just 60 cars globally, available in either French Ultramarine or London Red. Orders for this exclusive series are expected to open in early 2027. First deliveries are anticipated in the second half of that same year. Details for markets like Canada, including price and broader availability, have not been announced.

What the Type 01 means for the future of classic Jaguars

The Type 01 positions itself as a modern heir to Jaguar's grand tourer tradition. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and from 100 to 180 km/h in four seconds, aided by intelligent torque vectoring. The manufacturer emphasizes a driving philosophy beyond raw numbers. Jaguar said: "Jaguar talks less about headline numbers than about power in reserve, and about a car that shrinks around the driver." Orders for the 'Chromatic Moments' collection are expected to open in early 2027.
