Analogue Automotive's VHPK Elise Weighs Just 1320 Pounds
Analogue Automotive has built a 1320-pound, single-seat Lotus Elise variant called the VHPK, priced from around $470,000.
Analogue Automotive in the U.K. Has completed the first customer example of its VHPK, an ultra-lightweight, single-seat reinterpretation of the Lotus Elise. The car weighs just 1320 pounds, a figure achieved by removing the passenger seat and using carbon fiber body panels.
The VHPK moves the driver to the center of the car for optimal weight distribution. All the original fiberglass body panels are replaced with carbon fiber, and the car rides on forged alloy wheels with carbon-ceramic brakes. According to the builder, specifying full carbon wheels can save an additional 24 pounds.
Powertrain and Performance
The car's name, VHPK, stands for Very High Performance K-Series. It uses a modified Rover engine bored out to 1.9 liters and fitted with billet and forged internals. This setup produces 247 horsepower, which Analogue Automotive states is roughly 30 percent more than the Lotus VHPD engine used in the Elise Sport 190. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Quaife PG1 five-speed close-ratio transmission, with no traction control system.
Analogue Automotive emphasized the engine's character in its statement to Hagerty. "Crucially, this ensures that the car’s powertrain retains its original character, authenticity and feel," the company said. "The VHPK delivers exhilarating performance without a complete engine swap or the need for forced induction, keeping it closely aligned to the spirit of the original car."
Chassis and Customization
On the chassis side, the VHPK employs lightweight aluminum uprights and steering arms, along with multi-way passive dampers. The builder also offers a fully active suspension system as an option for customers seeking the ultimate in handling adjustability.
The first completed car is finished in PK Purple with a matching Alcantara interior and gold exhaust tips. Buyers can choose fully exposed carbon bodywork, a carbon hardtop, and an electric heating and air conditioning system to make the car usable in all seasons.
Production and Price
Analogue Automotive plans to build just 35 examples of the VHPK, each individually numbered and specified to the buyer's requirements. The starting price is approximately $470,000 before taxes.
The project draws inspiration from the Autobytel Lotus Championship, a short-lived racing series that featured similar single-seat Elises competing as a support series for the British Touring Car Championship.
