A rare unused Ford SVT Mustang Cobra R V8 engine is for sale, still bolted to its original factory shipping pallet

Marques: Original british AC Cobra - Vintage oldtimer classic car.

The Ford SVT Mustang Cobra R V8 engine being sold is one of a limited number of spare engines produced for the 2000 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra R, of which only 300 examples were made. According to the source, Silodrome, this engine remains in completely unused condition.

History of the Modular V8

The Modular V8 engine family was developed by Ford in the late 1980s, with the goal of creating a more advanced engine to replace the traditional pushrod V8 design. The program was led by senior engineer Jim Clarke, who aimed to create an engine that would surpass all previous Ford V8s in terms of power, efficiency, emissions, and smoothness.

The Modular V8 engine features a 90º V8 design with a 3.552 inch bore and a 3.543 inch stroke, and a chain-driven overhead camshaft per bank. The engine block is made of deep-skirt cast iron with cross-bolted mains, and the cylinder heads are made of aluminum. The engine's accessories are bolted directly to the casting, rather than hanging off brackets.

The SVT Cobra R Engine

The SVT Cobra R engine is a 5.4 liter V8 that produces 385 bhp at 5,700 rpm and 385 lb ft of torque at 4,500 rpm. The engine features a cast-iron block with aluminum cylinder heads, double overhead camshafts, and four valves per cylinder. The engine is fitted with an aluminum Canton Racing Products oil pan, along with alternator and power-steering pulleys and a dipstick.

The SVT Cobra R engine was developed as a replacement for the earlier SVT Cobra engine, which was found to have a power deficit. The new engine features a number of improvements, including a forged steel crankshaft, Carrillo steel forged connecting rods, and a stronger piston design. The engine's cylinder heads were redesigned to provide improved airflow, and the intake manifold was unique to the engine.
